BABY milk formula containing untested genetically modified ingredients poses a potential risk of creating antibiotic resistant superbugs, a leading medical researcher says.

Professor Peter Collignon, from the Australian National University medical school, says many GM foods contained antibiotic resistance genes which needlessly placed people, animals and the environment at a risk.

Personally I am opposed to ALL baby formula. Babies deserve breast milk. Before the outcry: I do acknowledge that there are exceptions, adopted infants mothers unable to breastfeed for medical reasons etc.

geetically modified produce causes sexual dysfunction in cattle or pigs fed solely on it

SBS TV ran a programme a few years ago where north american farmers fed their animals solely on GM produce - they lost fecundity and reproduction stopped

If you have to use formula please check all ingredients

If it has canola in it - that will be contaminated with GM produce (and sadly thats most of the margerines sold in australia)

If it has soy in it - if the soy is from australia or europe you can almost guarantee it is GM free - if it is from anywehre else or sourced overseas it will be contaminated with GM produce

if it has cotton seed oil in it - againit will be contaminated with GM produce

check where the wheat is sourced - in australia it is currently GM fre, but monsanto etal are paying huge dollars to political parties to allow farmers a choice - and that choice means customers no longer have a choice because monsanto etal force governments to ban segregation of crops

GM produce are dangerous - if for nothing more than the fact no indepenedent testing can be done because of hte licencing and patent laws which govern the seed

I'm with you on that Elaine, and I feel very strongly about it. But its easy for me to say as I have never had children. Just seems to me that everyone gives up on trying to breastfeed at the first little hiccup - or lots don't even try.

Also read about one study on rats fed solely on GM food. Same thing - reproduction dropped, they started fighting each other, lethargy, even canabalised each other, even when plentiful GM food was available. Returned them to non GM feed and they all went back to being normal happy rats fairly quickly.

I just hope and pray that the day comes sooner rather than later when the whole world realises GM is a Bad Thing. And Monsanto goes into receivership.
