Vacola Jars and Lids - giveaway in Adelaide

Postby neutroneus » Thu Sep 09, 2010 6:03 pm

Hi People

I'm new here. I mostly joined as I have about 100 vacola jars, mostly size 31, that I would like to get rid of. Also have lids, but no clips or rubber rings. These were my grandma's but they have been sitting in my garage going to waste and I'd like to see them used for preserving rather then put in recycling.

Anyone in Adelaide (Firle - east side) who wants to come and get them is more than welcome, just send me a message.

Thanks!

Darran

Darran,
What a great offer you're extending. Alas... way to far away to get them from you, otherwise I'd been knocking on your door already! Don't fancy taking up preserving yourself by any chance? :D

Same here, very generous offer thank you. Unfortunately live too far away . With any luck maybe Ali will see this post.

Thanks again

No takers yet?

@ Heidi - I actually like the ideal of preserving and I used to help my family do it when I was a kid, but I am planning on moving overseas in about a year and don't really want to get all set up, then have to leave it all. I am intending on getting into preserving when I get where I am going.

If nobody wants them, does anyone have any suggestions as to the best place to get rid of jars? Salvation Army or just put them in the recycling bin? They have been in my garage for a while so I am not in a huge rush to get rid of them if you think I should wait and see if Ali or someone else wants them.

If no takers, I'd try the Salvation Army... such a shame to throw into the recycle bin.

You could also join the local free cycle group and offer them. It is surprising how many people take offers from this group. There is a free cycle group in SA. It is under the yahoo groups so just Google yahoo groups (if your not already a member of any of them) and in the search type in free cycle south Australia. The SA group should then come up and you have to subscribe to it. Once you have given away what you wish to you can unsubscribe. Just another option if Ali isn't interested.

Oh no don't recycle! Freecycle sounds good. We'll be in Adelaide in Dec for my cousins wedding if you can wait that long! Or might be able to arrange some garage space in another cousins yard. (But then I really do have alot of jars here already.....!)

Darran, I'm tempted to ask if you'll pack them up and I'll pay for the freight to Sydney ... 100 Jars would be a great start to my collection - and postage would have to be cheaper than buying them off the shelf.

I ordered 60 mixed Mason Jars off Ian at redbacktrading yesterday ... I expect them to be here Monday. Freight for that 60 was about $45. Even with freight costs added in they end up about half the price of Vacola.

Cheers

I think I have found them a home, but thank you all for you comments and suggestions. Thanks especially to Shadowgirlau for the suggestion to join freecycle. I had a number of responses from there within hours of posting. Sorry I couldn't make it work to give them to someone from here but hopefully they will be well used by their next owner.

Thanks again!

Sounds great, pleased you found a home...

I'd never heard of free cycle either so thanks Kathleen, you are a font of knowledge.

Sorry I haven't been around much lately due to a trip up to the city for a few days and have been flat out like a lizard drinking since coming home. So much to do and not enough time in the day  Anyway glad to hear you found a home for your jars Darran and Vicki thanks for the compliment.
