Lost most of my fruit

Postby Shadowgirlau » Sat Dec 17, 2011 9:01 pm

Yes I have been out to the orchard looking around the trees and I definitely have lost most of the fruit.

I did manage to pick a bucket of boysenberry and quite a few Sylvan berries so along with what strawberries I could find I steam juiced these then yesterday i turned the juice into a nice mixed berry jelly. Have about 5 1/4 jars of gorgeous deep purple/red jelly. It hasn't all set up as yet but then it can take up to a fortnight for jelly to set so I have left it on the counter top and will keep an eye on it. One of the jars which had sealed yesterday gave off a huge pop this afternoon and is no longer sealed. When I mentioned this to DH his reaction was "great" more for us.

Oh Kathleen, what a shame! :(

The berry jelly sounds lovely though, I'd rather a jelly than a jam I have to admit. ;)

Thanks Ladies, I am still grieving the loss of all my fruit however as you say next year might be better, we can but hope.

I do actually have plenty of jams and also relishes in the fridge (which is off) for cool storage and space saving reasons until we move into the house and I can utilize my lovely storeroom. I think because I have so much and am the only one that eats the items needed to make these when fresh, I just can't get up the "oomph!" to grow anything anyway.

Hi Kathleen,
Your "oomph" will return, and it will come back with an added extras! Its just a stage, and it will pass, you just have to grin and bear it (although the grinning seems a bit strained at times I know!).
Merry Christmas,
Heidi

Would really appreciate that!

I'm going to have a really easy few days, and today the weather is warm so once I marinate these prawns and feed the chooks the scraps, I will put my feet up, read a book and swim and just be LAZZZY... :D
