Apples

Well after another good year production wise in the orchard I have found myself busy making various jams, jellies and preserves not to mention freezing quite a few containers of plums or apples.

The list so far comprises of Breakfast Apples/Spiced apple rings/Chunky apple sauce/Peach Halves/Plums/Apply Jelly/Plum Jelly
Nectarine and Peach Jam/ Cherry Conserve/ Spiced Pears. No Apricots this year and only one batch of the pears unfortunately.

Not much was managed in the vegetable garden this past season so the most I have put up has been - Pickled Beetroot/Tomato Relish/Onion Jam and Red Capsicum Relish.

Have plans to accomplish much more this year now that I am no longer having to help my daughter as much as I have needed to do so this past year or so.

Reading the posts/lack of posts it seems that all of us regulars have had a very busy time of it the past couple of years.
Hope someone finds time to join in the conversation. Love the ideas that abound regarding our chosen lifestyles.

Cheers

I'm still looking to start the garden and it's got to happen.

So sick of having to buy and not really doing any preserving, and there in lies my other problem, my kitchen in this house is so serviceable and difficult and I was hoping for a side verandah to be built in and get the kitchen working, but it's not happening. So I'm going back to the drawing board and going bit at a time to get at least small but functional!

Vicki I think we have all been there at one time or another. I just noticed the date and have to say I can't believe it has been so long since I have been in here. Vicki you will get your kitchen sorted eventually and now that you have reduced stock you will doubtless also find the time etc to put in your garden and those fruit trees.

As for apples, well this year my trees were having an off year in that we only had 1/2 dozen apples from one tree and half a bucket from another  I did manage to put up 1/2 dozen jars of breakfast apples (really a very chunky apple sauce style item) for DH who loves to have fruit on his breakfast.
Must have been an off year for all the trees this year really. If I remember I will call in at the orchards over in Donnybrook in a couple of weeks to see what cases of fruit I can get from there on my way home to make up the difference.

Cheers :D
