Famine or feast with cucumbers I'm afraid! In years gone by, I couldn't put a foot down in my garden without treading on one, this year, I have to search high and low, and alas, none there now.
Funny story... my 9yo son came in excitedly telling me stories of the giant stripey cucumber he could see in the garden, and could he have a knife and go and pick it. Of course, I said yes, knowing that a giant stripey cucumber wasn't fit for human consumption and would be thrown to the chooks. Now if I had been listening to him, instead of focusing on the FV unit, I would have avoided the following tragedy....
About ten minutes later, my son laboured up the back stairs with a one metre long stripey Gramma Pumpkin!!!! The stalk hadn't dried off, so obviously not ripe to pick, so now what do I do? Will it still ripen off the vine?
A lesson to be learnt I guess, hearing and listening are two different things, and a watched FV unit, will eventually boil, but agramma pumpkin cannot be reattached to a vine!
